Take advantage of FREE energy from the Sun!
Solar thermal systems use solar panels (collectors) to collect heat from the sun and use it to heat water which is stored in a hot water cylinder. The collectors are fitted to your roof. There are two types of solar thermal systems:
Flat Plate – These are traditional in their panel design and are fixed to the roof tiles or integrated to the roof.
Evacuated Tubes – These are a bank of glass tubes that are mounted to the roof. They take up less roof space but are just as efficient.
How do Solar Thermal Systems work?
Sunlight falls upon the flat plate or evacuated tube collectors and heats up fluid. His heat then goes through an insulated pipe to your solar cylinder, which is where hot water is stored. During less sunny months, it may be a good idea to have a conventional heat source to heat your water as normal.
What are the benefits of Solar Thermal Solutions?
- Reduced energy bills – Sunlight is free! Once the collectors are installed, your hot water costs will be significantly reduced.
- Reduced carbon footprint – Solar hot water systems are a renewable heating system which lowers the carbon dioxide emissions produced from your property.
- Renewable Heat Incentive – This UK Government scheme offers financial incentives for property owners who use renewable technologies. You could be eligible for annual payments from the government.
- Low maintenance – Once the solar water heating system is installed, maintenance is very low. Systems usually last 25+ years.
Is a Solar Thermal System right for me?
In order to successfully install your solar thermal system, there are a few things to bear in mind. You will need around five square meters of roof space. Alternatively, we can fix to a frame for the collectors on a wall or a flat roof. You must also have a space of a dedicated solar cylinder.
